“Our hearts go out to this child’s loved ones,” said Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer. “On behalf of the Lynn Fire Department and the City of Lynn, I want to express our deepest condolences to the family. This is a terrible loss for them and the community.”
Crews responded to the fire at 7 Circuit Avenue in Lynn around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, DFS reports. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames coming from the multi-family home.
Several residents were taken to local hospitals as a precaution, DFS said. It took about 45 minutes to contain the fire.
Authorities searched the house later Tuesday morning after realizing that the child was unaccounted for. The girl's body was found later in the day.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for the family affected and for our community,” said Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family as they deal with this unthinkable loss, and we wish all those affected a speedy and full recovery.”
Several surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution and firefighters from several neighboring departments also responded, NBC10 Boston reports.
Overall, more than a dozen people were displaced. While authorities could not determined the exact cause of the fire, they ruled it as unsuspicious.
DFS said the fire started from the front left corner of building but found no evidence of criminal conduct of intentional act. The possibility of the fire being accidental was also ruled out.
